We've got you covered on what happened at the meeting.

  1. APSA's focus over the last year has been on communication
Chairperson and president, David Agosti, spoke about new beginnings in APSA and the focus on communications. APSA has been communicating to the University about issues and concerns that are important to our membership. APSA is pleased to see that the membership has also been communicating back. There has also been an increased focus on communicating with APSA members through surveys, orientations and the newsletter.

  2. Our finances are healthy but we anticipate an increase in legal expenses.
Andrew Boden, Executive Director of APSA, spoke about our finances. We have a balanced budget this year, however, there are some upcoming legal cases,  including a possible arbitration for the Colin Taylor award, where we will need to dip into our legal reserves.

  3. We've successfully repealed and replaced the bylaws by Special Resolution.
Vice-President Jeff Bryer explained the need to change the bylaws and outlined the changes. The floor passed an amendment to wording that needed changing, but the members chose to pass the amended bylaws and so now APSA's bylaws are fully aligned with the BC Societies Act.

  4. The Salary and Benefits Committee has crafted initial proposals.
Jo-Anne Ray, chair of the Salary and Benefits Committee, spoke of the work that the committee has done since April 2019 and the proposal categories that the committee will continue to work to bring to the bargaining table in the new year.

  5. We are going back to Colin Taylor.
APSA and the University are at an impasse regarding parts of the Colin Taylor award. This includes the Job Evaluation and the Market Survey, both of which were, in APSA's view, not created through a joint process. APSA hopes that in line with Colin Taylor's mandate, the interpretation of the survey and implementation of survey results will be jointly developed.

  6. We welcomed your new board of directors. They work for you.
These are your new Board of Directors. They’ll work on your behalf with the University Administration to find solutions to your concerns and oversee all committee work.

  7. We thanked our former president and current chair of the advocacy committee for being on the board.
Wanda Dekleva, former president and chair of the Advocacy committee stepped down from the board. She is still an active advocate and we are grateful that she is still such an active volunteer for APSA.
