David Padgett, Senior Privacy and Policy Advisor with the Privacy and Legislation branch will dive into the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).
This half day session will cover:
- an overview of FOIPPA and its key features;
- what is and is not covered by FOIPPA;
- what is personal information (definitions and examples);
- access to information, including freedom of information rights, processes, and exceptions;
- privacy and the authorities for public bodies to collect, use
and disclose personal information as well as retention and security
requirements; - what the role is of the Information and Privacy Commissioner; and
- an introduction to some privacy tools and resources.

Speaker Biography
David
Padgett is a Senior Privacy and Policy
Advisor with the Privacy and Legislation branch (Ministry of Technology,
Innovation and Citizens’ Services). David manages the government’s
privacy and information awareness training and delivers in-person training
sessions to government, the broader public sector and the private sector. David has also been involved in the
development of corporate privacy policy and messaging, and helped develop the
privacy portions of the BC Services Card.
In addition,
David has an MA in Conflict, Security and Development from King’s College
London, a BA in History and Politics from the University of Sussex, and is
certified as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
