Arbitrations and Grievances

APSA has filed a grievance based on article 9.2 of our Basic Agreement. This grievance is to dispute the University's inconsistent distribution of the professional development fund reimbursement payout for temporary members from our last round of bargaining. We hope to resolve this matter as soon as possible.

APSA advocates have several ongoing grievances and investigations on accommodations, return to work and hours of work. We can't give any details due to confidentiality issues. Please see this infographic on the Life of a Grievance to learn more about how the grievance process works.

Human Rights Office

On January 12, 2023, SFUFA, on behalf of the Employee Council, submitted a joint letter to Francesca Hennigar, Interim General Counsel, regarding the proposed policy changes for the Bullying and Harassment policy (GP47) and the Human Rights Office (GP18). We sent an email to you with the content of the letter on January 16, 2023, with the subject line Employee Council Letter sent to SFU Policy and Consultation on Draft Policies: Human Rights; and Bullying and Harassment. We'd also like to thank our members who submitted feedback on these policies to SFU.

The Employee Council sent a jointly written letter to the Board of Governors on January 24, 2023, notifying them of the above issues. We included our joint letter sent to Francesca Hennigar for their information.

We recently learned that the University will be doing further formal consultations with the SFU community in the weeks ahead. Thank you to all of you who responded to the initial consultations. We encourage you to communicate to both APSA and the University on the proposed changes to these policies.
