I write this message as I do every year before I break for the holidays. In an hour, I'm expecting further difficult news from Dr. Bonnie Henry as the Omicron variant seizes the country. It's hard to feel any brightness in the world faced with such news. Add to this the weather woes that we've had this year, and it's even harder not to feel pessimistic.
Welcome to our second online AGM, and our second AGM held during the COVID pandemic. It’s important to acknowledge this and recognize how this has affected APSA as an organization and you as APSA members. In your professional capacities at SFU, some of you have been responsible for adjusting to the changing provincial directives and developing and implementing SFU’s organizational response. Some of you have been tasked with managing change and developing the direct operational responses for your departments or faculties due to COVID.
APSA is pleased to announce the new officers for the APSA Board of Directors. David Agosti was voted in as the 2022 president of APSA, Jill Sutherland was voted in as the new vice-president and Jasper Stoodley is your 2022 treasurer. Please take a moment to congratulate all the appointees. We know that they are dedicated and will be working hard for the interests of APSA members.

Bargaining APSA and SFU are proceeding to arbitration on December 7, 2021. The results of the final offer selection arbitration will come 28 days after that date. For more information on how bargaining works, see this infographic on Collective Bargaining.
Before heading off on holidays, have you taken note of these year-end items? Paid leave – Christmas closure AD 10.08 Once again, the University will be closed from December 25 - January 1. Continuing members will be paid for December 25 - January 1. Temporary members will be paid for December 25 - January 1 if the last day of your temporary appointment is after Christmas closure.
