My name is Alana McGillivray, and I am the Associate Director of International Programs at the Beedie School of Business.

I have worked with SFU for nearly 18 years, most of that time as an APSA employee. Much of my career has been dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities for students, colleagues, and partners through collaboration, inclusive leadership, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

I am putting my name forward for the APSA Board of Directors because I strongly believe in the importance of supporting staff and strengthening our community across the university. I bring experience in strategic planning, resource management, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership, along with a strong commitment to fostering professional growth and well-being. I am committed to using my experience and perspective to help APSA achieve its goals and ensure the needs of its members are heard and supported.

Analyst, Policy and Academic Affairs
Beedie School of Business | Dean’s Office

I have based my professional career in post-secondary (and in post-secondary HR roles specifically for over 15 years. I started my HR career at 2 BC Colleges (North Island College and Camosun College) and completed my Business undergrad, majoring in HR management and leadership. I took a professional development break before starting at SFU to complete a professional master's in information studies at the University of Toronto.

I have now been with SFU for nearly 10 years, spending the first three years as Faculty Relations Advisor during the rollout of the first SFUFA Collective Agreement. I have been with Beedie since 2019, supporting the Teaching Support Staff Union administration, and now support all non-continuing-hire types, including all Teaching Assistants. I am currently part of the TSSU Bargaining Caucus representing Beedie.

I have a strong interest in positive employee-employer relations and look forward to this role as an opportunity to connect with and support members of the SFU/APSA community.

Eric Tryggvason
Systems Analyst
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

I'm Erik Tryggvason, and I joined the SFU community as a Systems Analyst in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences Dean's Office in December 2020, at a time when COVID-19 turned our working world on its side.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with many APSA members in my day-to-day role, and as Co-Chair of a Local Joint Health & Safety Committee, I have built relationships between units to ensure that community safety concerns are heard and addressed in a timely manner to keep our workplace a safe, accepting, and diverse environment.

I am interested in joining the APSA Board, and if elected, will advocate for better working conditions and protections for our members.  I am keenly interested in ensuring that our members feel safe, secure, and represented in our workplace.

Stephanie Stewart

Stephanie Stewart
Disaster Recovery Coordinator, Information Security Services

Stephanie has been employed at SFU since 2015. She has been in a number of roles within IT Services including and has been in the role of Disaster Recovery Coordinator in Information Security Services since 2021. She has worked in a variety of sectors, but it is the post-secondary education sector, and SFU, that feels like home. This can be partly attributed to the connections she has made with fellow APSA members.   Her previous board experience in the post-secondary education sector includes being co-chair of the CUCCIO Communications special interest group (SIG) (2019-2020), SFU’s EDUCAUSE Ambassador (2019-2022) and EDUCAUSE IT Communications Community Group cabinet co-chair (2019-2022). She was also the chair of SFU’s United Way of British Columbia campaign from 2019 to 2024 leading a group of dedicated employee volunteers from across all three campuses and the SFU Retirees Association.
