APSA Vision Care Change

The following information was sent to members on July 11, 2013 from Diana Almedia, HR. Highlights added by APSA.

Effective July 1, 2013, the vision care benefit has changed for policy E009916. The new benefit is a payable maximum of $500 in a 24 month period.
Only receipts dated after July 1, 2013 are eligible under the new rules.

This change is best illustrated with an example.

  • First vision care claim - Feb 1, 2013 - $200
  • Change plan - July 1, 2013 to increase vision care to $500
  • Second vision care claim - Sept 1, 2013 - $400

PBC determines the benefit period from the date of the very first
vision care claim and the benefit period floats from that date. In the
above example, the member would be eligible for an additional $300 for
the September 30, 2013 expense. The next benefit period would start Feb 1, 2015 with the $500 maximum benefit.

Review your benefit period by logging on to PBC (www.pac.bluecross.ca)
and sign in to Caresnet. Your claim history is stored there,
and it includes the details of your vision care claim history. Otherwise, call PBC directly (604-419-2600).
