After four years on the APSA Board, three as President and
one as Vice President, Craig Changfoot is stepping down.

At the end of May, Changfoot will leave SFU and begin work
as Operations Manager with SNC Lavalin, on their contract with BC Hydro. It’s a
promotion he credits his time on the Board with.

“As APSA President, I had the opportunity to talk with a lot
of people and understand the issues affecting them. The interview panel said
that experience made me a better contender for the position,” says Changfoot.

Making connections was one of the main reasons he joined the
Board and it was his favourite part of being President. He loved learning how
the Association and Unions worked together, meeting with President Petter, the
VP Executive, and HR Executives, and engaging with members.

“The University is a huge machine. Being on the Board, I
learned the inner workings of that machine, instead of just my own role. To
know how everyone fits into that machine is one of my biggest take-aways,” says
Changfoot.

One of the projects that stood out was working on the
proposed pension plan changes with the Employee Joint Pension Committee (EJPC).
Moving from very little knowledge of the plan to understanding the details was
a highlight. He credits the Employee Joint Compensation Committee (EJPC)  members for helping him make sense of the intricacies
of the plan.

However, the thing he’ll miss the most? “The people,” he
says without delay. “The camaraderie. That’s what I’m really going to miss. I
hope I find that in my new position.”

Changfoot will be at the Vancouver Social on Wednesday, May 18,
from 12 to 1:30pm, where we will wish him farewell, over complimentary
appetizers, drinks and cake. Please RSVP to attend.
