The APSA team has received many questions from our members about this policy and the opportunity it presents for members to enrich their careers and bring new innovative ideas to the University.

However, our current APSA team lacks information on what topics and ideas make a candidate successful in being awarded this Professional Development leave. Here's a quick recap:

  • Your Dean or department head must approve this leave, and it is subject to funding availability and operational considerations.
  • Professional Development Leave needs to benefit the University and positively impact your work. 
  • This leave does not cover a graduate or undergraduate degree.
  • You must create a proposal to present to your department head. 

Who can apply for this leave?

Full-time and Part-time Employees in Continuing Positions can apply for university-funded Professional Development Leave or Departmentally Funded Professional Development Leave after completing six (6) years of continuous service.
