Hello, fellow APSA members!
A few updates for you as we head into the longer days of late winter:
- I am very pleased that the board has passed a resolution to bring Jeff Bryer on as a board member until the next AGM — his deep experience as past Vice-President, President, and long-time volunteer for various APSA committees will complement the knowledge of the current board.
- In other good news, we had a productive first set of bargaining dates in early January and will continue to make good progress on 2 dates this upcoming week.
- We extend our thanks to the Payroll Team for their hard work with PaySync!
- Thank you to everyone who attended the Faculty and Staff Town Hall. These are times of change for BC and Canadian post-secondary institutions, and the pinch is being felt across the country, to the point that some institutions have shut down or have dropped whole subject areas. We heard at the Town Hall that a provincial government review of the sector is supposed to come out, likely mid-March, and so I hope we will see useful insights there.
- Many terrific questions were asked at the Town Hall to SFU leadership, and it was made clear that there have not been enough updates or input on workforce planning involving all levels. I want to make sure we keep bringing up this topic and these questions to manage concerns of overwork.
Please reach out if you have any concerns about these or any other topics at president@apsacentral.ca.
