Giving Back: Meet Vince Wong, a new APSA volunteer

Vince Wong

APSA volunteers contribute their time and knowledge to help improve APSA members' work experiences. We were lucky to interview Vince Wong, who has recently joined the Salary and Benefits committee.

A recipient of the Simon Fraser University Chancellor’s Entrance Scholarship, Vince completed his BBA (Honours) at SFU before receiving his MBA at UBC. He worked in the aerospace and high-tech industries for over 6 years and was a Risk Management Analyst for WorkSafe BC before taking the roles of Business Manager and Managing Director, Administration and IT at UBC. He worked at UBC for 17 years before being hired at SFU.

When asked about returning to SFU as an employee Vince replies,

"Returning home [to my alma mater] where I spent 6 amazing years during my undergraduate studies very much appealed to me. I also want to give back to the institution that gave me financial assistance for post-secondary studies, the foundation for my career success, many lifelong friendships, and countless great memories.”

Volunteering for APSA is one of the many ways Vince plans to give back to SFU.

I strongly believe advocating for and improving the work conditions for our members will serve to enhance our recruitment and retention of the best professional and management staff to lead SFU towards future success.”

Vince’s experience as both an SFU student and employee as well as his years working for UBC gives him some significant insight into comparable institutions. Vince can make valuable contributions to the Salary and Benefits committee due to his business education, skills and experience.

Vince is passionate about his current role as the Senior Director, Advancement Services at SFU. It’s a new position well suited to his business background. He is highly motivated to make a difference and contribute to the success of SFU Advancement.
